Private Pilot
So you want to become a helicopter pilot? The requirements to become a Private Pilot are fairly simple:
Contact the flight school to arrange a demo flight. During this flight you will be introduced to the helicopter controls and attempt some hands on flying!
If you are serious about training, you will need to obtain a Student Pilot and Medical Certificate. Don’t worry; it’s not that bad, they’re just checking to see that you are in good health. You can find an Aviation Medical Examiner in your area through the FAA (Federal Aviation Administration) website.
If you want to start studying right away and can’t get to a book store, you can download almost all of the books required for your training free from the FAA website! Here are the books needed for the Private Pilot training:
Pilot’s Handbook of Aeronautical Knowledge
Private Pilot Helicopter Practical Test Standards
Now what about the flight training? For the Private Pilot, you will need a minimum of 40 hours of flight training which includes at least 20 hours with an instructor and 10 hours solo time. It is important to remember that proficiency in knowledge and skill will determine how fast you progress. The national average for Private Pilot certification is 60 – 75 hours of training. This number can be a lot more or less depending on how fast you learn, how much you study and how often you fly. It is possible to complete Private Pilot training in as little as a couple of months.
If you are interested in taking the first step, call or email today to schedule a demo flight! We look forward to seeing you!
